Early Ventures

In 1980, armed with little more than a bold idea and a startup capital of $150, Mr. Forster embarked on his entrepreneurial odyssey. His inaugural venture laid the foundation for what would become a formidable business empire. The acquisition of his first company Gwenmax Bearings & Transmissions by the Howard Smith Organization in 1997 underscored his innate ability to identify and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

Max Forster, a trailblazer in the Bearings and Power Transmission sectors, is the founder and current owner of Finer Power Transmissions. Established in 2003, Finer Power Transmissions began as a joint venture between Forster and two prominent international companies, Kaga Industries of Japan and New Contiland of the Republic of China. The partnership combined global expertise in the distribution business uniquely positioned to serve a growing and dynamic market.

Journey

Max Forster’s journey is a story of remarkable achievement, adventure, and dedication. Born in Sri Lanka, Max attended Kingswood College in Kandy, where he completed year 12. As a young man, he shone on the cricket field, proudly representing the First Eleven team. His prowess extended to the water as well, excelling as a swimmer in challenging long-distance events such as the two-mile and ten-mile sea swims.

New chapter in life

At the age of 21, Max embarked on a new chapter in life, migrating to Australia. He initially worked for a ball bearing company, where he laid the foundation for his professional career. With ambition and determination, Max eventually ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing his own business. Over time, his venture grew into a highly successful and prominent organization, a testament to his vision and hard work.

Personal life

Max’s personal life is equally fulfilling. He is married, with two sons and five grandchildren, and values the importance of family. He is also an active member of several prestigious clubs, including the Riversdale Golf Club, Portsea Golf Club, Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, The Australian Club, and the RACV Club in Melbourne.

Professional and family life

In addition to his professional and family life, Max is a man of adventure. He has walked the iconic Kokoda Track, cycled across the steppes of Mongolia on a mountain bike, and completed the Camino de Santiago, walking an incredible 805 kilometers in just 28 days. These endeavours reflect his indomitable spirit.

Beyond his adventures, Max is passionate about mentoring others, sharing his knowledge and experience to help guide aspiring entrepreneurs and professionals. His hobbies include golf and music; he has sung in two club choirs, showcasing his musical talent, and enjoys the intellectual challenge of playing bridge.

Independence and Growth: In 2008, Mr. Forster demonstrated his independence and strategic foresight by buying out his joint venture partners. This pivotal decision marked a new chapter in the company’s evolution, enabling it to chart its own course towards growth and expansion. Today, with a dedicated team of employees and offices across Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, the Forster Group continues to thrive under Mr  Forster’s stewardship.

Family Legacy

Mr. Forster’s legacy extends beyond business success to encompass family values and continuity. His two sons, Mark and Greig, serve as joint Managing Directors, embodying the family’s commitment to excellence and innovation. Under their leadership, the company continues to innovate and adapt to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

 In 2010, Mr. Forster further bolstered the Forster Group’s portfolio with the acquisition of RKM Morgan, an Australian conveyor chain manufacturer. This strategic move, coupled with the merger with Davidson Chains, solidified the company’s position as a market leader. Mr. Forster’s astute M&A strategy underscores his commitment to driving growth and value creation.
